Warning:

This page contains spoilers for Zombolini: Apocalypse Now.

Casey Bell, also referred to as "Cable", is a major protagonist of Zombolini: Apocalypse Now! and is the newest member of Zombolini. She's an oddly lax individual, wanting to stop and smell the roses instead of being all that concerned about the apocalypse. It's unclear if her optimism is admirable or deplorable.

Appearance

Casey is a lanky human of average height, though her tendency to slouch causes her to appear shorter compared to other young women. Her skin is pale and looks slightly sickly. She has dusty brown hair in a pixie cut with a few strands that stick out at all times. Her eyes are hazel and somtimes lack a shine in them[3].

Her usual outfit consists of a half-sleeved tan shirt, navy cargo shorts, and cyan Gatorz shoes. She's rarely seen without brown gloves or a navy trapper hat with a cyan pom-pom on. She keeps a crossbody satchel on her person and has a collection of trinkets inside. Oddly enough, she's always missing one of her navy socks.

Prior to joining Zombolini, Casey has been shown with longer hair[1].

Personality

Casey is known for her lax demeanor, though one could argue she's almost too calm. It's hard for her to take most things seriously, evident by her insistence on avoiding the serious planning that Dior is always up to. She has her head in the clouds half the time, spacing out often enough to be concerning to her peers. Frederick tends to describe her as someone with a gaze far too old for how young she is.

The curent predicament of a zombie apocalypse doesn't seem to stop Casey's inquisitive nature. She picks up little trinkets she comes across, whether they're relics that survived the collapse of humanity or an interesting piece of the natural world. Her amass of trinkets all rest in her satchel or her own space within the Tomberry Ice Rink.

Though all the deflection in the world can't hide one stark truth about Casey. She's on the run for something, refusing to talk about who she is, where she's from, and anything else about herself. Beyond the surface is deemed as "too personal", which is a main cause of strife between her and the rest of the squad. She'll often feign ignorance when confronted about what's bothering her, and it calls into question what her true nature is.

History

Casey prior to Zombolini: Apocalypse Now.

Before the Apocalypse

Casey was an average student attending Barkwich University, one of the few state universities present and one tat offered what she was looking for. She was a senior in her anthropology undergraduate degree, and hoped to have become an archeologist.

The only noteworthy thing about her childhood is her history in scouts and how she was fairly tomboyish compared to her peers.

Prior to Joining Zombolini

When the apocalypse struck, Casey was to take refuge with her peers and had managed to get in touch with her parents. She set it upon herself to serve as the leader of the rag-tag bunch she came up with, knowing that they could have a high chance of survival if they just made it to her parents' residence at the opposite side of the state.

Unfortunately, her determination blindsided her. She had too much faith in herself to be the sole protector of her friends, and put too much on her shoulders. She ended up getting her small group surrounded in a stupid decision to go the fastest way through some of the largest cities.

She's the only one to make it out alive.

Season 1

Casey joins Zombolini, led by Dior Vernon. She works hard to attempt to gain their trust, though the recent traumas she's endured have changed her and made her a lot more mellow than she once was.

Given the season's episodic nature, not much about Casey is developed outside of her relationships within Zombolini. Her own antics lead to some relationships developing faster than others.

The following information is not featured in the show's release and is considered dubiously canon.

Main Article: Cut Content

According to Erica Y. Platts, the subsequent seasons were supposed to be serialized[4] and focus on both Casey reconciling with her past mistakes and a small arc related to Buoy.

At some point, Casey was supposed to reveal what happened in her past and be forced to face it instead of running. It would've result in mixed reactions from the others before an understanding was to be reached. It was meant to tie into a core theme of the show that things will be okay in the end, even after hardship.

Another major event was going to be Dior and Casey becoming a couple. This was met with extreme backlash both by the studio and audiences when alluded to in season 1.

Relationships

Dior Vernon

As the leader of the squad Casey joined, Dior is rather tough on her. She is initially reluctanct about letting Casey join and only does so because there's nowhere else for her to go.

The lackadaisical demeanor Casey exhibits has caused a lot of strife between them, with Dior constantly upset with her for not taking things seriously. It isn't until the two have a small heart-to-heart that Dior starts to understand and be kinder.

Zoë Forester

Zoë, another oddball within Zombolini, quickly takes to Casey. The two get along well due to an overlap in their (former) majors and interests, though Casey is a bit off-put by Zoë's extreme fascination with the dead.

Frederick Vernon

Getting off on the wrong foot is an understatement for these two. Casey's actions with Dior has affected her a lot and, with the added pressure his sister is under, it's left Frederick to be rather harsh towards Casey. She tries to avoid him if possible.

Buoy

A peculiar zombie that Casey is both intrigued and terrifed by. For an inexplicable reason, Buoy isn't like the others. They have some semblance of self, even if it's rather shallow. Casey is often seen talking to Buoy when she's under stress but doesn't want others to know it.

[1] Casey's gender is a subject of debate due to other language dubs using male pronouns to refer to her. Furthermore, censored material has either completely cut or altered flashbacks of Casey's past to change the fact she has longer hair and looks more feminine then. Platts has gone on record to confirm that Casey is meant to be a woman.

[2] Each member within the Zombolini faction has one of five team roles assigned to them. The origin of this assignment is unknown, with the community divided on if it's a popular fan theory or if it was confirmed by the crew.

[3] While originally seen as an animation error, lead artist TBD clarified in an online forum that Casey's eye shine being missing at some parts is intentional.

"I wanted to do a lot more with the series, truthfully. It was always meant to be an optimistic take on a horrible situation, but the first season didn't allow for me to sell the horror as much as I'd liked. Casey and Buoy suffer the most from the show being cut before it could lean into the story even more."
